“As a Council Person for the City of Mount Vernon I have seen first hand the overwhelming support the County Executive has provided to our community.”

Mt. Vernon, NY–June 25…Mount Vernon City Councilwoman Deborah Reynolds (D) today crossed party lines to endorse Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino (R) for re-election. Councilwoman Reynolds joins a growing list of prominent Westchester Democrats supporting County Executive Astorino for a second term.

“I am a proud elected Democrat who is endorsing County Executive Astorino because he shares my values of providing for those most in need while keeping taxes at reasonable levels,” Councilwoman Reynolds said. “As a Council Person for the City of Mount Vernon I have seen first hand the overwhelming support the County Executive has provided to our community. I feel he should be supported for re-election, regardless of party affiliation. He has done a great job and deserves a second term.”

Two weeks ago, the leader of the 5,000-member Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Rev. Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson; former 19-year Democratic State Assemblyman Ronald Tocci (D-New Rochelle), and prominent Westchester Jewish community leaders Martine Fleishman and Nancy Zaro announced the formation of Democrats for Astorino. Last Saturday, a group of African-American clergy, led by Bishop C. Nathan Edwers, President United Black Clergy and Pastor at Friendship Worship Church, and Rev. Richardson endorsed Mr. Astorino.

(Correction: An earlier version of this news release listed the names of two ministers who were expected to attend last Saturday’s event, but ultimately did not. We apologize for the inconvenience.)

“I am enormously grateful to Councilwoman Reynolds for her friendship and support,” County Executive Astorino said. “The first thing I said after winning election four years ago was that I would represent Democrats, Republicans and independents alike in this county, and that’s what I’ve worked hard to do every day that I’ve been privileged to lead it. Westchester families of all backgrounds and political beliefs deserve competently managed government that protects taxpayers while taking care of those most in need. It is humbling to see so much support coming from across the political spectrum.”
