BRAMSON DUCKS QUESTIONS ON KEY WOMEN’S ISSUE
Refuses to Call on Embattled
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to Resign
Puts Blind Partisanship Over Victims of Sexual Abuse
Westchester–June 21…High-taxing New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson (D-WFP) continued to place partisanship over the rights of sexual assault victims yesterday in repeatedly ducking questions from members of the news media over whether embattled New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-WFP) should resign, the campaign spokeswoman of County Executive Rob Astorino today charged. Mr. Silver has a long history of covering up sexual assaults on junior female Assembly staffers by political colleagues and has used hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer money to silence the victims with legal gag orders.
“Noam Bramson loves talking about Albany issues to deflect from his mismanagement of New Rochelle that has resulted in extraordinary tax increases, but he refuses to address the most important question before the state today: Should an Assembly Speaker who has repeatedly covered up sexual harassment and violent sexual assaults committed by political colleagues continue to hold a leadership position,” asked Astorino spokeswoman Jessica Proud. “County Executive Astorino, The New York Times, The New York Post, the New York Daily News, NOW New York State and dozens of others have called on Mr. Silver to step down, but Mr. Bramson continues to place partisanship over the rights of sex assault victims. His purporting to be an advocate for women is insulting to anyone who has ever felt the sting of sexual harassment or discrimination.”
“The New York Times may have said it best about Silver’s actions,” Ms. Proud continued: “‘[Silver] failed to provide an environment in which young women could work without fear of being sexually assaulted,’ …and that he has a ‘long-standing moral blindness to the way powerful men around him intimidate and sexually harass young women working in the Capitol.'”
Ms. Proud called upon Mr. Bramson to put party politics aside and demand the resignation of Speaker Silver today.
