SENATOR BALL ISSUES STATEMENT ON $90 MILLION AGREEMENT TO RESTORE FUNDING CUTS FOR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
Albany, N.Y. – (6/17/13) – Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I – Patterson) issued the following statement regarding the agreement that New York State will restore $90 million in cuts to the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).
“I am very happy that we have been able to reach an agreement to restore $90 million in funding for OPWDD. In a time when these services are needed and being used more than ever, we should be increasing the funding and not slashing it,” said Senator Greg Ball. “I salute everyone that has advocated on behalf of the restoration, without their help we could be without any restoration at all. I will continue to work with my colleagues to support the vital services OPWDD provides to our most vulnerable population.”
The original executive budget proposed 6% cuts across the board, a $240 million cut or ($120 million state share) to OPWDD. The final 2013-14 state budget restored $30 million in state funds and another $30 million in matching federal funds to OPWDD.
