KATZ AND COLLEAGUES SECURE A VICTORY AS DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILTY FUNDING IS RESTORED
Assemblyman Steve Katz (R,C,I-Yorktown), the Ranking Member of the Mental Health Committee, voted against the $90 million cut from the state Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) during budget negotiations and has since been a vocal advocate for a complete restoration of the funds. He is pleased to announced today that an agreement with both houses of the legislature and the governor has been reached which will restore these funds.
“This fight should have never occurred,” said Katz. “This money was callously cut by the governor and now the legislature has to restore the funding. I am proud of my colleagues in the Assembly Minority Conference for standing with the developmentally disabled community to make sure funding wasn’t cut from these programs. We must stand for those who cannot defend themselves. This has been an honorable fight, and I am proud to have taken up the cause. I am even more proud to say that we are victorious, and that the $90 million will be restored to the OPWDD.”
