“WOMEN’S AGENDA: LET EACH IDEA STAND ON ITS OWN MERIT,” SAYS KATZ
Assemblyman Steve Katz (R,C,I-Yorktown) is urging Gov. Cuomo to make each point of his Women’s Equality Agenda presented today a stand alone bill to pass on its own accord.
“Each one of these bills should be looked at individually so we may fully debate each idea,” Katz said. “I’ve presented multiple bills working toward making New York the leading voice in women’s equality, and I’ve had the courage to do so with each bill being a stand alone measure. Let’s have a full discussion as to whether or not each point will help women and help New York. Bundling all these goals together is an attempt to limit debate and sneak bad ideas into a larger plan.”
Assemblyman Steve Katz is the author of pieces of legislation that would advance women’s equality by:
•preventing housing discrimination against victims of domestic violence (A. 6411);
•prohibiting workplace discrimination against pregnant mothers (A. 6410);
•creating an affirmative defense for victims of sex trafficking with harsher penalties for those convicted of sex trafficking (A. 6409);
•affording military spouses more opportunities to obtain New York licensing in reduced time in order to join the work force more quickly (A. 7596);
•creating a zero tolerance policy across New York in regards to sexual harassment (A.6408); and
•stricter penalties for unlawful wage discrimination (A. 6407)
