WE CAN DO BETTER WITH PAIN MANAGEMENT
Assemblyman Steve Katz (R,C,I-Yorktown) voted in favor of Assembly Bill 6357 today, which would allow for marijuana to be used for medicinal and therapeutic purposes.
“After many discussions with healthcare professionals and the people of my district, as well as hearing the stories of those afflicted with unimaginable pain, I have elected to vote in favor of this legislation,” said Katz. “If we are to believe in the message of limited government and liberty, we must allow doctors to prescribe the painkillers they view as necessary. That’s not for government to decide, that’s for the physician. It is time to stop acting as though Albany knows better than trained medical professionals.”
Eighteen states and the District of Columbia have enacted medical marijuana reforms of some variety. In an editorial from the New England Journal of Medicine Dr. Jerome P. Kassirer, argued that, “it is also hypocritical to forbid physicians to prescribe marijuana while permitting them to use morphine and meperidine to relieve extreme dyspnea and pain.” For more information regarding Assemblyman Steve Katz please contact his district office (845) 628-3781.
