TITLE: Is Our Unique Experiment In Self-Rule A Sham?

“The instability, injustice, and confusion introduced into the public councils, have, in truth, been the mortal diseases under which popular governments have everywhere perished; as they continue to be the favorite and fruitful topics from which the adversaries to liberty derive their most specious declamations.”
Publius in Federalist 10:

“You’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems. Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave and creative and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can’t be trusted.”

Personally I do not think he is talking about FOX News or talk radio. I believe as these college grads are part of the “low information” group, they do not listen or watch the above. So the question is who’s voices are they hearing. Immediately it would be the voices of our founding fathers if they were taught any meaningful account of the birth of our nation. Our founders knew first hand the hand of tyranny. The knew that given the opportunity, governments left unchecked will grow and take more and more liberties from the people.

The other voices he wishes them to ignore is the voice of their parents. Who else would express into their young minds the greatness and unbounded opportunities that is America. Obama had it right when he said
“unique experiment in self-rule”. Three things about America at the time of it’s founding that were unique. 1) Our rights come from our creator, we are born with them. They are not bestowed on us by any governing entity. 2) The presumption if innocence in legal matters. That the bourdon of government was they must prove you guilty, not for you to prove your innocence. 3) The sins of the father were not passed on to the son. In other words, if your father (remember we are talking the 1700’s) died in debt, the government could not take from the son property he independently owned to satisfy that debt.

Ours was a government founded bottom up, not top down. To codify this, the wrote a constitution that stated flat out what the federal government could do (this is called enumerated powers). To make this point emphatically, the 10 amendment clearly says “all powers not granted the federal government belongs to the states and the people”.

This was the “unique experiment in self-rule”.

“We have never been a people who place all of or faith in government to solve our problems. We shouldn’t want to. But we don’t think the government is the source of all our problems, either.”

President Obama at the commencement address at the Ohio State University.

So there it is. What ever faults we face from debt, to high unemployment, to even higher energy costs, etc. it s not the government’s fault, but yours.

“We have never been a people who place all of or faith in government to solve our problems” He said this with a straight face. What the hell is Obama Care if not placing our faith in government to solve our problems? What the hell are all the rules and regulations, (over 80 thousand pages in environmental, health care and IRS rules alone) enacted by unelected bureaucrats if not a text book example of government trying solve our problems.

Because government left unchecked as it is now, you are too stupid to live with out government. Oh, you can make choices, but if it is not the approved choice, you are fined or imprisoned (try not having an approved health plan after 2014). The use of environmental and zoning codes as a way around the “takings clause” of the constitution without compensating the owner. You can own a car, but by regulations we the government are going to dictate the type of car you will eventually own. You want to smoke, go ahead, try to afford them. Try to find them behind a curtain. Try to find a place to smoke them.

We, the people, chose to do these things together — because we know this country cannot accomplish great things if we pursue nothing greater than our own individual ambition,”

President Obama at the commencement address at the Ohio State University.

Simply put, if you are a successes, you did not build that. “Individual ambition” was the engine of American exceptionalism. The unique experiment that a person could profit from their labors. Before that, the only way an individual could profit was to either be part of the ruling class, or steal from someone else’s labor.

The problem with “Individual ambition” is it lay with personal responsibility. Democrats can not let that stand, because it is at odds with their core belief that all prosperity comes from government. If you can succeed without government, how can government control you? How are we going to stay in perpetual power if you do not need us to live?

What Obama did at Ohio State University was to campaign against that which he stands for. He counted on those low information attendees not to notice that his administration is at odds with the constitution he swore to uphold. I throw down the gauntlet to my liberal counter parts, James Martorano of Yorktown News and Steven J. Wohl of Mahopac News to justify how this President did not lie to the students at Ohio State University about our how “unique experiment in self-rule” is not a sham in the hands of this administration. That the voices he alludes to were incorrect in their warning. NOTE: I will reply. This is what I say, what say you?
