Legislator Borgia Criticizes
Loss of Federal Funds Due to Astorino’s
Housing Settlement Missteps
White Plains, NY – Westchester Legislator Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining), chair of the Westchester County Board of Legislators (BOL) Government Operations Committee, issued the following statement regarding the potential loss of $7.4 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) funding from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) because of the Astorino Administration’s non-compliance with the fair and affordable housing settlement between the County and the federal government:
“It is truly unfortunate and disgraceful that Westchester County may lose over seven million dollars in federal funding, already promised to Westchester communities and not-for-profit organizations to support vital programs and capital projects. Losing this funding will hurt Westchester’s low-income and most vulnerable residents immediately, but, in the long-term, all of the county’s taxpayers will be impacted by this.
“We can’t have any more stalling, political posturing and finger-pointing. I call on County Executive Astorino to work collaboratively with the Board of Legislators and the federal government to remedy this perilous situation before more harm is done to Westchester.”
The Astorino Administration again failed to advise the BOL Government Operations Committee that the County is about to lose this valuable federal funding, which is needed for projects the Administration wants to do. The committee receives bi-weekly updates on the Housing Implementation Plan, and the next scheduled report is this Wednesday, March 27 at 1 PM.
