Description: Judge Michael Corriero, Executive Director and Founder of the New York Center for Juvenile Justice will discuss the topic of changing New York State’s age of criminal responsibility. Currently New York and North Carolina are the only states that have not raised the age of juveniles beyond 16. There is growing sentiment and legislative action within NY to raise the age.
Judge Corriero served as a judge for 28 years in the criminal courts of New York State. During the last 16 years of his tenure he presided over Manhattan’s Youth Part, a special court to resolve the cases of 13-, 14-, and 15-year -olds charged with the most serious and violent crimes.
