ALBANY, NY… NYGOP Chair Ed Cox today released the following statement:
“A year ago, New York’s Medicaid program was under the purview of an effective Inspector General who had already helped recoup over $1.5 billion in wasteful spending.
“Last March, he was fired by Andrew Cuomo and replaced with a handpicked successor urged by the governor to soften the state’s tough audits.
“When the cat’s away, the rats will play.
“Fast forward to last week, when the federal government released a report outlining the billions of tax dollars in fraud and abuse wasted annually by New York’s Medicaid program.
“New York’s Medicaid program is the most expensive in the Nation, and costs more than Medicaid in Texas, Pennsylvania and Florida combined – not because of deserving recipients, but because of a torrent of waste, fraud and abuse.
“Enough is enough: we call on the governor to launch a Moreland Act Commission to investigate the abiding fraud and mismanagement of New York’s Medicaid program.”
