Albany, NY. January 18, 2013… The New York Republican State Committee mourns the passing of Richard J.P. Hanlon, a long-time Syracuse community and political leader who served as Onondaga County Republican Chairman and as Secretary of the State Party.

Richard Hanlon had a distinguished career as Executive Director of the Onondaga Community College Foundation, an adjunct professor of business law, Executive Director of the New York State Senate Committee on Insurance and a public relations manager for Niagara Mohawk and Crouse Hinds.

Richard served as Deputy County Executive of Onondaga County under County Executive John Mulroy from 1966 to 1972 and was elected Chair of the Onondaga County Republican Committee in 1974. In 1989, Richard was admitted to the practice of law in New York State – at age sixty.

In a statement released today, State Republican Chairman Ed Cox said, “Dick Hanlon was a loyal member of our Party who understood the importance of both public service and community leadership. On behalf of the officers, members and staff of the New York Republican State Committee, Tricia and I extend our deepest sympathy to Dick’s children and grandchildren. We thank them for Dick’s service to our party, our state and his community.”
