Democrats Had an Exceptional 2012 in the City of Peekskill

51% of All Registered Voters in Peekskill are Now Democrats, GOP Continues to Lose Share of Local Vote, Comes in Distant Third in Registration at 19% of All Voters

In 2012, Additional 503 Residents Registered as Democrats, Compared to 87 as Republicans and 239 Unaffiliated

Obama Swamped Mitt Romney in Every Single Election District in Peekskill

(Peekskill, NY) – 2012 proved to be an exceptional year for Democrats in the City of Peekskill with the Party’s registration advantage growing to an astronomical 51% of all registered voters in the City. Democrats now hold an almost 3:1 registration advantage over the Republican Party. In fact, of the 892 new registrants in the City of Peekskill in 2012, 503 of them decided to enroll in the Democratic Party, representing 56% of all new voter registrations in Peekskill, bringing the total number of Democrats registered in Peekskill to an all-time high of 5,927 voters.

“The fact that new registrants in Peekskill overwhelmingly choose to identify as Democrats makes it crystal clear that residents support the Democratic Party and its progressive, pro-middle class agenda in Washington, Albany, Westchester and Peekskill,” said Marina Ciotti, Chairwoman of the Peekskill Democratic City Committee. “As a local political organization we put a lot of time and energy into our voter outreach and registration efforts and what we’re finding is that people like the progress they’ve seen in Peekskill under Democratic leadership.”

In 2012, President Barack Obama secured a commanding victory in Peekskill, swamping Governor Mitt Romney in every election district in the City. In addition, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Congresswoman Nita Lowey, Justin Wagner-candidate for New York State Senate, and Assemblywoman Sandra Galef all won commanding victories against their GOP opponents in Peekskill. No Republican candidate on the ballot in 2012 won in the City of Peekskill.

Of the 892 new registrants in Peekskill, only 87 chose to enroll in the Republican Party, representing just 9.75% of all new registrants in 2012, bringing their total registration to 2,169 or 18.83% of all voters.
