County Legislator Shimsky Named to Mass Transit Task Force for Bridge to Replace the Tappan Zee

White Plains, NY – Westchester County Legislator MaryJane Shimsky (D-Hastings-on-Hudson) has been named to a twenty-nine member task force to examine mass transit options for the new bridge to replace the Tappan Zee. The announcement was issued on Friday by New York State Thruway Authority Board Chairman Howard P. Milstein.

The task force has been charged with identifying transit options for the new bridge and the I-287 corridor through Westchester and Rockland counties; developing funding strategies to establish and sustain transit operations; and creating a corridor management plan to ensure a viable transit system.

“Replacing the Tappan Zee Bridge provides us with the opportunity to develop the regional mass transit system that our area needs,” said Shimsky. “The combined bridge replacement and transit undertaking will be the single largest infrastructure project in the Hudson Valley, creating tens of thousands of jobs and remaking our region for the better. I am honored to be included on the task force that will facilitate such important work.”

Legislator Shimsky, who represented former New York State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky on the Tappan Zee’s Stakeholders Advisory Working Group (SAWG) for Traffic and Transit from 2007 through 2010, has devoted much of her tenure on the Westchester County Board of Legislators to infrastructure issues and called public attention to the deteriorating condition of County-owned bridges.
