Westchester County Legislator Michael B. Kaplowitz (D, Somers), chair of the Board’s Committee on the Environment & Energy, will be conducting a committee hearing on the recent power outages that resulted from Hurricane Sandy. NYSEG and Con Edison representatives will be attending, as well as members of the public.
“Westchester residents got hammered by the hurricane and then got hammered by our power providers,” said Kaplowitz. “The storm may have been ‘unprecedented’, but so was the horrific and weak response of the utility companies.” Kaplowitz went on to say that he was ‘disappointed’ that the NYS Public Service Commission (PSC) – who oversees the utility companies – has refused to attend this meeting, as well as other meeting dates offered as alternatives, but is hopeful they will attend a future meeting on this issue.
The hearing is set to take place on Tuesday, Dec. 4th, at 3:00pm at the Board’s 8th floor offices located at 148 Martine Avenue in White Plains.
The confirmed attendees from the power companies are as follows:
Con Edison: John Banks, VP of Government Affairs; Dan Lyons, Public Affairs Manager; Tony Suozzo, Electric Operations General Manager; Acting Director of Westchester Public Affairs Jane Solnick; and either the VP or Director of Emergency Management.
NYSEG: Jim Salmon, Manager of Outreach and Development, East Region (NYSEG); Anthony Zangare, Brewster Division Operations Manager (NYSEG); and Dave Foss, Manager of Transmission and Distribution Programs and Projects (Iberdrola USA).
Although the public is encouraged to attend, those who cannot can submit their comments for the record to Legislator Kaplowitz via fax: (914)-995-3884 or via e-mail: Kaplowitz@westchesterlegislators.com.
THE PRESS IS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND! EXCELLENT PHOTO/VIDEO OPP!!
