(Katonah, NY) The Katonah Museum of Art (KMA) has announced that the Himmel Award & Lecture honoring Maya Lin previously scheduled for November 4, but postponed because of Hurricane Sandy has been rescheduled and will take place on Sunday, December 9. The event, which will be held at the Chappaqua Crossing auditorium, begins with a reception at 5pm followed by Ms. Lin’s lecture at 5:30pm. Tickets are $50 for KMA members, $75 for non-members, and $15 for students. Prepaid reservations are required and may be made by calling 914-232-9555 ext. 2968. Chappaqua Crossing (the former Reader’s Digest) is located at 480 Bedford Road Chappaqua, NY
Maya Lin is an internationally recognized artist whose remarkable career bridges the fields of art, architecture, and the monument. She draws inspiration from the landscape, asking the viewer to reconsider nature at a time when it is crucial to do so. A committed environmentalist, she is at work on her last memorial – What is Missing? – a multi-sited artwork that raises awareness about the current crisis surrounding biodiversity and habitat loss.
About the Himmel Award and Lecture
The Himmel Award, named in honor of Betty Himmel who was instrumental in defining the direction and mission of the Katonah Museum of Art and has served as an arts advocate and community leader for many years, recognizes those creators and conceivers, radical thinkers and risk takers who have demonstrated their ability to incite, excite, and provoke new thinking in the arts.
