C.H.O.P. Down Hunger – Unmask Homelessness!
CH.O.P. (Caring for the Homeless of Peekskill , Inc.) will hold its 8th Annual Gala Benefit on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at 7pm at Hollow Brook Golf Club, 1060 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY.
This exciting evening will feature sumptuous Gourmet Food and Wine Stations, a Silent Auction and Raffle including a basketball autographed by Elton Brand, and fabulous entertainment by World- Renowned Rock-Classical Violinist Daisy Jopling.
Four exceptional Honorees will be celebrated for their extraordinary support of C.H.O.P.’s programs:
The Fourth Unitarian Society of Westchester, Henry’s- on- the- Hudson Restaurant, Pachamama Farm at Maryknoll, and the Peekskill Area Pastors Association.
“A Video Journal which will run on a big screen during the event will not only highlight our sponsors and advertisers but give our guests a new window onto the programs which the Gala benefits,” says Donna Besteiro, C.H.O.P.’s Executive Director. “Adam Nunez, our videographer, has been visiting Jan Peek House, our 19 bed homeless shelter, as well as Sunny Donut, our free breakfast “soup kitchen”, and Fred’s Pantry, our choice food pantry, capturing the programs in action and interviewing staff and clients.
“As you might expect, the number of individuals who became homeless and hungry in our Northern Westchester communities increased exponentially during the economic downturn,” explains Board Chair Ruth Wells, “but as the recovery continues, those who find themselves at the bottom of the economic ladder will be the last to benefit from current improvements in the economic situation. This summer, for example we have seen at least a third again as many clients on at Fred’s Pantry on an average Saturday as we did last summer, despite a falling unemployment rate.C.H.O.P needs your support to continue and expand its mission , alleviating hunger and homelessness in Peekskill and the surrounding areas of Northern Westchester, promoting independent living for those who use its services, and educating the community about issues of and solutions to hunger and homelessness.”
Individual tickets are $75. Sponsorship opportunities are available at many levels. Can’t attend? Monetary contributions as well as donations of items and services for the silent auction are welcome. Checks may be written to C.H.O.P., Inc., 200 North Water Street, Peekskill, NY 10566.
