Town Board Work Session
October 23, 2012
Meeting highlights. For a summary of the garbage contract bid award discussion and other agenda items, visit ciyinfo.org.
1. Garbage contract
After a contentious discussion and a closed executive session with the town attorney, the Board, in a 5-0 vote, awarded a two year contract to the lowest bidder, Competition Carting, a start-up company. The contract is expected to save residential taxpayers approximately $275,000, or $70 per taxpayer per year. Despite concerns over whether the company has the equipment or staff to perform the task, at least two councilmen said they had no other choice, given the bid specs that they had voted on several weeks earlier that eliminated all experience requirements from the bid specs.
2. Front Street parking
The Town will work with the Bauman Bus Company to help it find additional space for the company’s drivers to park in order to leave spaces on Front Street free for the customers of other businesses on the street.
The original temporary certificate of occupancy for the Winery, approved in February, has expired and Winery owner Tom DeChiaro is requesting a new TCO through December, 2013 to give him time to complete required site improvements. A public hearing on the request will be scheduled.
4. JV Mall
The Board referred proposed changes to the zoning ordinance reducing the parking requirements to advisory boards.
5. YCCC rent increase
The co-owners of Bright Beginnings, a child care business that rents space in the YCCC, objected to the proposed 3% rent increase for 2013. Supervisor Grace suggested that the owners submit a counter proposal to the Town.
