LATIMER BUSTED SENDING DISHONEST MAIL PIECE

“George Latimer worked to block Governor Cuomo’s Property Tax Cap and his mandate relief bill. He needs to explain why his mail says otherwise.” — Cohen spokeswoman

Westchester–Oct. 3…The campaign of successful small businessman and state senate candidate Bob Cohen (R-C-I) today called upon challenger Assemblyman George Latimer (D-WFP) to explain why his most recent campaign mailing blatantly misleads Westchester voters about his opposition to Governor Cuomo’s property tax cap and mandate relief efforts.

A copy of Mr. Latimer’s mailing — corrected to make it factual — is attached above.

“George Latimer fought unsuccessfully to block Governor Cuomo’s 2% Property Tax Cap, and now’s he’s trying to fool voters into believing he supported it,” said Cohen spokeswoman Jessica Proud. “The same goes for his opposition to Governor Cuomo’s successful mandate relief bill. Mr. Latimer refused to support Governor Cuomo’s reform, and now, at election time, he wants people to believe the opposite.”

Mr. Latimer’s mail piece also heralds his “opposition” to the MTA Payroll Tax — a tax he voted to create!

“Mr. Latimer talks out of both sides of his mouth, and now he’s been caught doing it in print,” Ms. Proud continued. “The truth is that George Latimer worked to block Governor Cuomo’s Property Tax Cap and his mandate relief bill. He needs to explain why his mail says otherwise.”

Mr. Cohen, an ardent supporter of property tax reform, supported Governor Cuomo’s 2% Tax Cap and his mandate relief bill, which will save Westchester taxpayers an estimated $75 million over the next five years.
