Albany, NY…September 13, 2012 — Today, New York GOP Chairman Ed Cox released the following statement after Kirsten Gillibrand dodged yet another Senatorial debate request:

“For all of her bravado about being the most transparent Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand continues to prove herself disingenuous.

“Whether it is her flip-flops on the issues of guns, illegal immigration, and gay marriage or her dismal record of bringing jobs back to Upstate New York – while touting legislation that is stalled in committee without a single co-sponsor – Kirsten Gillibrand has failed to represent the people of this state and promote the issues that matter.

“And most recently, Senator Gillibrand hypocrisy reached a new low as she has continued to promulgate a phony Republican “War on Women,” while standing by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, whose role in using public money to hush up victims of serial sexual abuse, has prompted ethics and criminal investigations of his actions, as well as calls for his resignation.

“If Kirsten Gillibrand is serious about representing the people of New York State, she owes it to them to have a series of debates with her Republican opponent Wendy Long all across New York discussing the issues affecting them and their families,” Cox said.

To date, Wendy Long has accepted five separate debate requests, most recently a Manhattan College, Newsday, and News 12 Network debate, while Kirsten Gillibrand has agreed to only one on October 17th, a YNN/NY1 sponsored debate which will only air in upstate New York and New York City, ignoring the people of Long Island and the Hudson Valley.

“I call on all New Yorkers to join me in urging Senator Gillibrand to debate Wendy Long, so that the people of this state can get the kind of election they deserve.”
