ASSEMBLYMAN STEVE KATZ CALLS
FOR SHELDON SILVER RESIGNATION
WHO: New York State Assemblyman Steve Katz, 99th assembly district. Mr Katz is currently running for reelection to his seat, which has been redistricted as the 94th.
WHAT: Dr. Katz will call for Speaker Silver’s resignation in light of revelations that he used taxpayer funds to secretly pay off sexual harassment allegations against fellow Assembly member Vito Lopez.
INITIAL QUOTE: “Speaker Silver is an attorney and was well-aware that the payments were – if not illegal – highly unethical and a slap to the faces of women and the hard working voters of New York State,” Said Steve Katz. “Women were groped and violated and he used taxpayer funds as hush money.”
Katz Added: “How are Joe Paterno at Penn State and Sheldon Silver similar? They both covered up sexual crimes. They both chose to do the wrong thing so that their professional interests would endure unmolested. Sheldon Silver’s actions are unconscionable. It is time for Speaker Silver to do the right thing and resign. It would be a significant step towards cleaning up Albany.”
WHERE: Steve Katz’ District Office; 824 Route 6, Mahopac, NY.
WHEN: Tuesday September 4 at 10:00 am
OFFERING: Dr. Katz will outline his case concerning Speaker Silver’s actions and how the Speaker’s resignation would be beneficial in the effort to clean up Albany. Q&A will follow.
Post-press conference interviews can be arranged by contacting Kevin Mercuri (above media contact).
